Marin County Jail Safety Project

Wagstaff + Rogers Architects, and our role as Bay Area institutional architects, we were engaged by Marin County to design and implement a comprehensive safety mesh barrier system within the Marin County Jail, a part of the famous Frank Lloyd Wright designed Marin Civic Center in San Rafael, CA. The project included the installation of floor-to-ceiling Safety Mesh Barriers at all inmate Pods that maintain visibility, containment, and life-safety conditions across the multiple housing units.
Our role included coordination with county officials, detention staff, specialty fabricators, and structural engineers to integrate the barrier system into the existing facility without disrupting daily operations. The resulting design strengthens the jail’s overall safety infrastructure and aligns with current detention facility standards for inmate safety and occupant protection.
